Volle zus van Wizzard vd Donkhoeve
Thanks to the Flanders Mare Auction one gets the chance to buy a top product from the performance studfarm of Gustaaf Quintelier, in particular a product out of BWP’s performance family 61. We are talking about Aphrodite van de Donkhoeve. Canaletto, her sire, jumped as a youngster very successfully, including second place during the ‘Bundeschampionat’. After this brilliant performance he was sold to the famous Danish Velin family. Partnered with Charlotte Velin, Canaletto (sporting name: Candaletto), caused a furore in the international showjumping world, including first place in the Helsinki Grand Prix. Osterblume, Canaletto’s dam, is also the dam of international showjumper Libera (Jos Lansink and Hap Hansen) and the grandmother of Athletico (for many years international Grand Prix-horse in partnership with Ben Schröder).
Ramona van de Gaver, Aphrodite’s dam, is the foundation dam of BWP performance line 61. This daughter of Chin Chin was successful in showjumping competitions. Partnered with Kurt Declercq she claimed, for instance, seventh place in the world championship for seven-year-old showjumping horses in Lanaken. After her sports career she was used as breeding dam. And not without success! She produced, for instance, Utopia van de Donkhoeve (Grant Wilson, Koen Vereecke and Pieter Devos, international four- and five-star tournaments, Nations’ Cups and so on) and Wizard van de Donkhoeve, a full brother to Aphrodite van de Donkhoeve. Wizard and his rider Wilhelm Vermeir impressed in several national and international showjumping tournaments. In 2011 Abdullah al Sharbatly started to compete with Wizard, including 14th place in a GCT-class in Estoril (5*). Ramona van de Gaver is also the grandmother of international Grand Prix-showjumper Allegro van de Donkhoeve.

Tony Raman: “As a breeder it’s important to start with a strong damline. We are also relatively new in the breeding world, but that was the first lesson that we were taught. Aphrodite vd Donkhoeve is the full sister to Wizzard and the half sister of Utopia vd Donkhoeve. Five horses from this family jumped 1.60m and there are more to come. Because we bought Ramona vd Gavers, Aphrodite’s mother, and because we already have some nice offspring, we applied for the auction.”
